R Madhav Chandran

Hailing from the aristocratic Koikal Meda family of Chettikulangara, MC is a true leader who leaves a trail in all fields that he touches, leaving his indelible marks in many halls of fame. One among the first batches of Computer Science and Engineering when it was introduced in 1980s, and having specialised in business management , MC worked with IT majors - HCL Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) during his early part of the professional career. He had a fast-track career growth as a professional reaching leadership positions in a short period of 8 years. While the whole world looked with awe and disbelief, MC left a plush position at TCS, as its Marketing Manager in its HQ, to take a plunge as an entrepreneur, starting the Cyberland group of companies in 1998.

One among the first users of Internet in Kerala while the cyberworld was just getting unfurled in the country, Cyberland became the first Internet Café of the state and only the second in the country, way back in 1998. Pioneering the setting up of exclusive Cyber Cafes in this part of the world, MC went on to set up 28 franchises of Cyberland in Kerala in a span of 2 years. Over the years, keeping abreast with the trends in the technology, the group concentrated its focus to turn-key Networking projects. Now Cyberland and Linknet are leading IT organisations in Kerala engaged in providing computer networking products and solutions to corporate clients and computer resellers. Cyberland has won several awards including ‘Best Value Added Reseller Award’ at the national level instituted by CRN Magazine for 3 consecutive years. MC believes in creating new leaders and developing entrepreneurship around him, and all his colleagues at the group companies are now co-owners with him - leaving him enough space to share his time and talent in very many social and philanthropic domains. Reminding all on how he surprised all at TCS in 1998, MC did a similar act in 2018 when he declared that he was turning to be a non-executive Director of his group companies to concentrate more on philanthropic activities. Now being the Honorary Secretary of his dream project Cancure Foundation, founded in 2007 by him and his close friends, MC has positioned the Foundation as one to reckon with, in the domain of Cancer Care. While being the Honorary Secretary of Kerala Management Association (KMA) for two consecutive years, he helped in catapulting KMA to be one of the happening places in the domain of management and even won the Best Local Management Association Award of AIMA for KMA. He is now the President of KMA and also an active member of Regional Sports Centre, Kerala Fine Arts Society, Cochin Gymkhana Club and also a Free Mason.

Rotary world saw the ascent of a new leader when MC was elected unanimously as the District Governor of Rotary International District 3201 spanning across the states of Kerala & Tamil Nadu for the year 2019-20. He made history of sorts when he was elected unopposed, without an opponent candidate, for the first time ever. As the Governor of District 3201 he bagged the No.1 position in the Zone & No. 20 in the world for TRF contributions, by collecting $1.28 million during his term. He also initiated a record 47 Global Grant projects during the year, with a cumulative worth of over Rs. 30 Crores. During his term his District did many unique projects and he is credited to have conceived the first ever human milk bank in Kerala as a Rotary project at Ernakulam & Trichur.

Currently, he is the Secretary of the forthcoming Rotary International Institute 2021 & also the ARRFC for the Districts of 3201 & 3211. He is also now selected as one among only 39 Endowments & Major Gifts Advisors (EMGA) of The Rotary Foundation world-wide for year 2022-25 for Rotary Zone 5, India. A much sought after organizer, trainer and leader in Rotary, he has addressed many Rotary events in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Family

Wife – Sujata Madhav Chandran hailing from Kolkata and a gold medalist in Economics & Management, is also a senior IT professional with over 29 years of corporate experience and has worked with IT Majors like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Oracle India Ltd. Currently she is Global Head – Competency Development, Data Services of the Analytics & Insights Unit of TCS and is based at its Cochin office.

Sons - Rishi Madhav Chandran (23 years) & Mihir Madhav Chandran (20 years) both students of College of Engineering, Trivandrum – Rishi now working as a Project Engineer at Wipro & Mihir in his second year of Electronics & Communication Engineering.
